GROUNDHOG DAY on Groundhog Day! 24hr Hogathon!
2nd February 2016 @ 6:00 am - 3rd February 2016 @ 6:00 am£2 - £10
What could be better than watching Groundhog Day on Groundhog Day? How about a Groundhog Day double-bill! Or even a triple bill? Or even…. no, that would be crazy … a 24 hour groundhog marathon!?!?!?!
Yes, that’s right. We’re going the whole stupid hog, screening Harold Ramis’ time-loop comedy 12 times back to back, starting at 6am on Groundhog Day, Tuesday 2nd Feb. Why? Because we can. Because, it’s where film exhibition meets futile endurance, where cinephilia meets utter folly.
If you’d like to join us, you’ll be able to drop in at any time during the wee small hours for a super discount screening (just £2!) and stick around as long as you can manage. If you want to come for the peak-time evening double bill for a fiver, then that’s cool too. Or you could go the whole hog, and watch 12 films back to back for £10, (including cup of tea and a sandwich). Get involved for as little or as much as you like (or can take!). You crazy crazy people. Not even Shia LaBeouf would do this!
We’re also encouraging people to use the screening to raise money for the cinema or the charity of their choice, so let us know if you’d like to be sponsored. We’ll be live tweeting and reporting the weather repeatedly through-out the day (and night)
For the un-initiated, Groundhog Day is a 1993 cult fantasy comedy in which Bill Murray plays Phil Connors, an arrogant TV weatherman reporting on the annual ‘Groundhog Day forecast’, only to find himself in a time loop, doomed to repeat the same day ad-infinitum in the small Pensylvanian town of Punxsutawney. After perpetually experimenting with suicide, hedonism, and teaching himself classical piano, Phil finally begins to question his own world view of humanity.
Think alarm clocks, think Sonny and Cher, think Ned! It’s like Edge of Tomorrow for weathermen.
Screenings at every 2 hours, starting at 6am!
We’ll also be selling some amazing Groundhog Day prints from Chris Alsop on the night.
FINALLY – SPONSOR US! Sam and Chris will be projecting and introducing the film for 24 hours, living the hell that is groundhog day, in order to raise money to show more films for free. Help us raise our target of £240!
